Lawmakers demand Home Minister’s accountability for March 28 violence

KATHMANDU: A demand has been raised to summon Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak to the parliamentary committee to answer questions regarding the violent incidents that occurred on March 28 in the areas of Tinkune, Koteshwor, and Jadibuti, including stone pelting, arson, and looting.

During the meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Wednesday, lawmakers called for the Home Minister to provide answers about the events of March 28.

Congress MP Hridayaram Thani demanded that the Home Minister be summoned to address the incident. “What caused the events of March 15th? We need to summon the Home Minister to answer this, Mr. Chair. The Prime Minister should have been summoned, but now this committee should call the Home Minister,” he said.

Congress MP Sarita Prasai also stated that the Home Minister should be called to answer questions about the incident, emphasizing the need for an investigation into the various issues that have been raised.

Congress General Secretary and MP Vishwaprakash Sharma also called for a thorough investigation into the incident in Tinkune to uncover the truth.

CPN-UML MP Rajendra Rai supported the demand of his fellow MPs to seek a response from the Home Minister regarding the events at Tinkune.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) MP Buddhiman Tamang expressed concerns over his party being linked to the incident of March 28.

He called for a judicial inquiry commission to investigate the matter and establish the facts.

The demand for accountability and investigation continues to grow as the public seeks clarity on the causes and consequences of the March 28 events.
