KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML, which is leading the government, has yet to pay a fine of one lakh rupees to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, even though four months have passed since the penalty was imposed.

The UML was fined for littering during a public event in Durbar Marg on Mangsir 7, 2081.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City had decided to impose a fine of one lakh rupees for polluting the public space.

However, the party has not yet paid the fine, according to Bhupdev Shah, the personal secretary of Kathmandu’s Mayor Balen Shah.

“We had sent an official letter to UML through email and postal mail, requesting them to pay the fine. Since they did not respond, we are preparing to send a letter to the body responsible for collecting fines under the Financial Accountability and Responsibility Act, 2076,” said Bhupdev Shah. “That is the competent authority in this case, and it can enforce the fine. If they don’t comply, the Election Commission or other relevant authorities may intervene.”

Similarly, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) was fined one lakh rupees by the Metropolitan City on 25th Falgun for littering at various locations, including the Tribhuvan International Airport gate, Tilinga, and Gausala, during a welcome event for former King Gyanendra Shah.

RPP paid the fine immediately the next day, on 26th Falgun.

Moreover, Kathmandu Metropolitan City also imposed a fine of 793,000 rupees on the Nirmal Niwas for causing damage to public property and littering during an event at Tinkune on Chait 15.

However, Nirmal Niwas did not acknowledge the notice, and the Metropolitan City sent a letter through postal mail on Chait 17.

According to the Mayor’s secretary, Nirmal Niwas has not yet responded to the fine notice either.
