MP Sita Kumari Rana highlights struggles of street children in obtaining birth registration
She further criticized political parties and civil servants for exacerbating the situation by viewing it through a partisan lens, which has led to citizens suffering.

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress MP Sita Kumari Rana has highlighted that due to the failure in the effective implementation of laws, street children continue to face difficulties in obtaining birth registration even after reaching adulthood.
Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Tuesday, she pointed out that the lack of proper law enforcement has resulted in street children living as stateless individuals.
She further criticized political parties and civil servants for exacerbating the situation by viewing it through a partisan lens, which has led to citizens suffering.
She mentioned that even the registration offices have become entangled in political interference, hindering the services they are supposed to provide.
Despite clear laws regarding birth registration, she pointed out that local representatives often lack legal awareness, which has created problems in the registration process.
Rana emphasized the importance of ensuring that street children receive timely birth registration to safeguard their rights and entitlements.
The Constitution of Nepal guarantees that any child found within Nepal, without known parentage, shall be considered a Nepali citizen based on their lineage until their parents are identified.
