Riyan Parag fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate in IPL 2025
The slow over-rate fine marks the second instance of such a penalty in the 2025 IPL season.

KATHMANDU: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has imposed a fine of Rs 12 lakh on Rajasthan Royals’ captain, Riyan Parag, for a slow over-rate during their match against Chennai Super Kings.
The penalty was imposed following the game played on Sunday in Guwahati, where Rajasthan Royals secured their first victory of the season after two consecutive losses.
The slow over-rate fine marks the second instance of such a penalty in the 2025 IPL season.
Hardik Pandya was the first captain to face a similar fine this year when his team, Mumbai Indians, lost their opening match, and he too was penalized for a slow over-rate.
Riyan Parag, who usually serves as a key player for Rajasthan Royals, stepped up to captain the team due to the absence of their regular skipper, Sanju Samson, who is currently sidelined with a finger injury.
While Samson is still recovering, Parag has been leading the team in his absence, managing the responsibility of both captaincy and his role as a batter.
The slow over-rate penalties are becoming an increasingly discussed aspect of the IPL 2025 season, as teams are required to bowl their overs within a certain time limit.
If the required rate is breached, the captain is fined, and this serves as a reminder for teams to be more mindful of their pace throughout the match.
