KATHMANDU: Once regarded as Bollywood’s ‘hit machine,’ actor Salman Khan has seen a decline in his box office performance over the past seven years.

Since 2018, none of his films have met the expected commercial success.

Even the much-awaited third installment of the hit Tiger franchise, which released last year during Diwali, struggled to recover its production costs. Earlier films like Race 3 and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan also performed below expectations.

Now, Khan’s latest film Sikandar, which was released on March 30, has shown signs of facing a similar fate.

The film, which had generated significant hype before its release, was expected to open with a box office collection of over 40 crores.

However, the early response has been lukewarm, with negative reactions from audiences impacting its opening numbers.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Sikandar grossed a net total of 30.06 crores on its opening day. While not a disaster, the figure is below expectations.

Adarsh notes that the film performed relatively better in mass-centric regions but still couldn’t live up to its projected potential.

He also anticipates a slight increase in business on Monday (April 1) due to the Eid holiday.

Despite the film’s initial commercial response, Sikandar has been criticized by both audiences and critics alike.

Viewers have described it as one of the weakest films in Salman Khan’s career, while critics have pointed out flaws in the screenplay and acting, despite the film’s positive messaging.

Indian media outlets have largely given the film a rating of 2 out of 5, indicating disappointment across the board.

This suggests that the film could struggle to maintain momentum in cinemas in the coming days.

Directed by AR Murugadoss, known for his work on Ghajini, Sikandar stars Salman Khan opposite actress Rashmika Mandanna, who plays his wife.

The film’s primary antagonist is portrayed by Sathyaraj, famous for his role as ‘Kattappa’ in Baahubali.

The supporting cast includes Prateik Babbar, Kajal Aggarwal, Anjini Dhawan, and Sharman Joshi. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Sikandar seems to be facing an uphill battle to recover its investment.

Given the current trajectory, the film’s future at the box office remains uncertain, and it might not achieve the commercial success that was initially hoped for.
