KATHMANDU: In a session of the House of Representatives on Monday, CPN (UML) MP Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai accused former King Gyanendra Shah of sending individuals to set fire to people’s homes after garlanding them at Nirmal Niwas.

During his speech, Bhattarai argued that Shah had violated the agreement made with the state and suggested that the government should reconsider the privileges and services granted to him.

He questioned whether the benefits given to the former king would remain intact after his breach of agreement.

Bhattarai said, “The government had granted former King Shah services and respect as a former head of state. But today, he has broken that agreement. Therefore, I want to ask this parliament: After breaking the agreement, will the services and privileges given to him remain? I want the government to respond. He has broken the agreement. He made goons commanders and sent them to dance the ‘Tandav’ in Tinkune. I reiterate, from Nirmal Niwas, he garlanded goons and sent them to set people’s houses on fire.”

Bhattarai further criticized past kings, claiming that only King Prithvi Narayan Shah and King Bahadur Shah had contributed to the protection of the nation. He also raised concerns about the current state of Nepal’s borders, questioning, “Where were Nepal’s borders, and where are they now?”
