Barcelona defeats Girona 4-1 with Lewandowski’s stellar performance

KATHMANDU: Barcelona extended their lead at the top of La Liga with a dominant 4-1 victory over Girona, as Robert Lewandowski played a key role in the win.

The Catalan club now sits 3 points ahead of Real Madrid.

The home side took the lead in the first half thanks to an own goal by Girona’s Ladislav Krejci.

However, Girona equalized early in the second half when Arnaut Danjuma scored for the visitors.

Lewandowski restored Barcelona’s advantage in the 61st minute, before netting his 25th La Liga goal of the season in the 77th minute, following an excellent pass from Frenkie de Jong.

Ferran Torres sealed the victory in the 86th minute, scoring Barcelona’s fourth goal.

Earlier on Saturday, Real Madrid had won against Leganés, drawing level on points with Barcelona. However, with this win, Barcelona regained their lead in the league.

With 66 points from 29 games, Barcelona has now won 9 consecutive matches in La Liga under manager Xavi Hernandez.

Next up, Barcelona will face Atlético Madrid in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals on Wednesday, following a 4-4 draw in the first leg.
