KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Oli stated that the floor of Parliament is not the appropriate place for commenting on the merits or faults of civil servants.

Speaking during the meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday, he made it clear that the ongoing parliamentary obstruction due to the issue of a civil servant was not acceptable.

He emphasized that the Parliament should not be blocked by raising questions about individual employees.

He pointed out that the House is responsible for determining the method of rewarding those who perform well and punishing those who are at fault.

Regarding civil servants, Oli explained that if a departmental minister feels that a civil servant is not loyal to them, the chain of command will not function properly.

In such cases, ministers have the authority to transfer the employee, place them in a reserve position, demand clarification, issue advice or warnings, or even remove them from their position.

The Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) had been obstructing Parliament for the past few days, demanding the removal of Kulman Ghising, the Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority.

They had been insisting that Parliament should not proceed until Prime Minister Oli gave a satisfactory response regarding Ghising’s removal.

Following the Prime Minister’s response today, the parliamentary proceedings resumed.

Prime Minister Oli concluded by stressing that the time has come to safeguard the constitution, the rights acquired through people’s struggles, democracy, the federal democratic republic, and its successful implementation.
