KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Yogesh Bhattarai has expressed concerns that the political environment in Nepal is being pushed backward.

Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday, Bhattarai criticized the recent events and actions in the country’s politics.

He strongly condemned the violent activities carried out by royalists in Kathmandu on Friday, calling them detrimental to the nation’s democratic progress.

Bhattarai also expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic death of journalist Suresh Rajak, who was killed during the royalist incidents.

Furthermore, Bhattarai raised objections to the burning of the vehicle of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Santosh Pariyar and condemned the act as an attack on political freedom.

While emphasizing his support for a republican system, Bhattarai pointed out that communists have long been advocates of republicanism.

He urged former King Gyanendra to refrain from any involvement in politics and to avoid drawing attention to himself.

Bhattarai also raised questions about the mysterious events surrounding the 2001 royal massacre, further adding to the political debate in the country.
