KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that former King Gyanendra Shah will not be granted amnesty.
Addressing the House of Representatives on Monday, he made this assertion.
Oli mentioned that former King Shah was involved in the violent pro-monarchy rally that took place in Tinkune on Friday.
He claimed that anyone engaging in violent protests, regardless of the disguise, would be brought within the legal framework.
The Prime Minister also accused Shah of inciting the crowd by issuing a video statement.
He raised the question, asking whether someone advocating for the restoration of monarchy and the overthrow of the existing system should not be compelled to clarify their stance on these chain of events publicly.
Oli said, “Former King Gyanendra Shah released a public video statement on Feb 19, inciting the crowd. He should not be granted amnesty. Those who wish to become king again and dismantle the system should be required to publicly state their position on these series of events.”
In response to Prime Minister Oli’s remarks, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmakers protested in the Parliament session.
