Wildfire in East Nawalparasi still uncontrolled, air quality worsens
The smoke has caused discomfort, especially for people walking outdoors, leading to eye irritation.

KATHMANDU: A wildfire that has been raging in the Chakla forest area of Madhyabindu Municipality-10, Eastern Nawalparasi, for the past three days remains uncontrollable.
The fire has spread across approximately 200 hectares, and despite efforts to control it, dry weather and strong winds have hindered progress in managing the blaze.
According to Shishir Lamsal, the Information Officer at the Nawalpur Division Forest Office, fire control efforts are being made by creating fire lines to prevent further spread.
The fire has also affected areas within the Managhat, Khayarsal Community Forest, and National Forest of Madhyabindu Municipality.
Residents, community forest users, and forest office teams are working together to extinguish the flames.
While wildfires have broken out in ten forest areas of the district, control has only been achieved in six of them.
As a result of the fire, the atmosphere in Eastern Nawalparasi is covered with smoke.
The smoke has caused discomfort, especially for people walking outdoors, leading to eye irritation.
Dr. Ramesh Prasad Acharya, the Medical Superintendent of Madhyabindu Provincial Hospital, Nawalpur, warned that the fire’s emission of fine particles and toxic gases could lead to respiratory problems.
He advised the public to avoid going outside unless necessary and to wear masks and glasses to protect themselves.
