KATHMANDU: After violent incidents orchestrated by royalist groups in Kathmandu’s Tinkune area on Friday, the government is taking a tough stance against former King Gyanendra Shah.

Following the violence, which included vandalism, arson, and looting in the surrounding areas, the government has concluded that these activities were carried out under the former king’s directive.

As a result, authorities are preparing to take severe legal action against Shah.

Security agencies have provided reports confirming that the violent acts were planned under Shah’s leadership. In response, the government has moved forward with the process of revoking his passport.

High-level government officials have identified Shah as the mastermind behind the events on Friday.

According to one senior official, the conclusion was reached that Shah was the principal organizer of the planned violence.

With confirmation that the events were deliberately executed, the government is preparing to bring Shah into the legal process. Authorities have decided to monitor all activities associated with him and take necessary actions as required.

Meanwhile, the government has also made changes to Shah’s security detail, reducing the number of personnel assigned to protect him.

A team of 26 personnel that had previously been assigned to him has been withdrawn, and a new team of 16 has been deployed.

The Armed Police Force confirmed that the new team is led by DSP Pramod Prakash Pathak, replacing the previous commander, DSP Jagdish Hamal. While the standard security measure for VIPs is a 16-member team, the government had previously provided 26 personnel for Shah’s protection.

The main political parties are holding Shah responsible for the violence at Three Kune and are calling for further action, including the imposition of more sanctions and restrictions on him.

They argue that the royalist groups organized the protest under Shah’s guidance and support, making him accountable for the events.

On the other hand, Shah’s supporters are running campaigns on social media, demanding his arrest and accusing the government of using the incident as political retaliation.

They claim that the government’s actions are arbitrary and aimed at tarnishing the former king’s reputation.

Following the incident, pressure from media, civil society, and opposition parties has been mounting on the government to monitor and control the activities of the former king.
