KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has strongly condemned the criminal activities carried out by royalist groups last Friday, accusing them of attempting to shift blame for the incident onto the security forces.

Pokhrel claims that, under the leadership of former King Gyanendra, there was an attempt to overthrow the government in a manner similar to Bangladesh’s model, describing the incident as a well-planned conspiracy.

In a statement posted on social media, Pokhrel highlighted the mob violence led by Durga Prasai, who had been appointed as the “People’s Commander,” and noted that there were efforts to unjustly place the blame on security forces.

According to Pokhrel, the true motives behind these actions are clear and visible in the open society, but royalist groups are trying to present themselves as innocent.

Pokhrel further added that if the royalists and former Panchayat leaders had taken responsibility for their actions and placed the blame squarely on Durga Prasai and his followers, the Nepali people might have been able to believe them to some extent.

However, the pressure from Nirmal Niwas (the residence of the former king) has made the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) establishment powerless, according to him.

Pokhrel stated, “Until the day of the incident, the RPP leadership had a different stance, but after the pressure from Nirmal Niwas, they started presenting the event from a different angle, claiming that there was resistance to police repression.” He also mentioned that the fate of the former Panchayat leaders had shifted due to fear of Nirmal Niwas, causing them to cover up the true facts of the incident.
