KATHMANDU: A protest organized in Kathmandu’s Tinkune area in support of former King Gyanendra Shah turned violent, leading to the fleeing of Durga Prasai, the leader of the demonstration.

The police have intensified their efforts to locate him.

The protest, held on Friday under the banners of the “Joint People’s Movement Committee for the Restoration of the Monarchy” and the “Campaign for the Protection of the Nation, Nationalism, Religion, Culture, and Citizens,” escalated when tear gas was deployed at the stage in Tinkune.

Following this, Prasai fled the scene.

According to the police, he entered a shop near Garigau and later left the area in a Scorpio vehicle.

The police have launched an extensive search for Prasai, with teams from the Valley Crime Investigation Office, District Police Complex Kathmandu, and the Police Headquarters involved.

Authorities suspect that he may have traveled towards Lalitpur via the Ring Road.

Meanwhile, another protest leader, Navraj Suvedi, has been placed under house arrest by the police.

Prasai is expected to face charges of manslaughter, and there are preparations to file a case against RPP Vice Chair Rabindra Mishra and General Secretary Dhawal Shamser Rana for allegedly inciting the violent activities that occurred in Koteshwar and Tinkune.
