KATHMANDU: A protest led by Durga Prasai’s royalist group, demanding the restoration of the monarchy, turned sad on Friday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, 29-year-old Savin Maharjan from Kirtipur Municipality-4 lost his life during the demonstration, which he had joined under Durga Prasai’s leadership.

In another tragic incident, journalist Suresh Rajak also lost his life due to a fire caused by the royalist protestors.

Rajak, a photojournalist working for Avenues TV, was reportedly filming from a rooftop when the fire broke out, leading to his death.

As tensions escalated at the protest site, police were forced to fire warning shots in the air.

Meanwhile, on social media, Commander Durga Prasai of the protesters claimed that the government’s actions were responsible for the young man’s death.
