KATHMANDU: A fire broke out near Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport on Friday, igniting a bush area at the airport.
The fire has not yet been brought under control, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Lalbabu Subedi from the airport security police office.
It is suspected that the fire may have been set by a royalist group currently protesting.
As a result of the fire, a Thai Airways flight heading to Bangkok has been canceled. Authorities are working to control the blaze, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
In addition to the airport fire, royalists also set fire to the office of the Medicinal Herbs Production and Processing Company, which operates under the government.
The fire was allegedly set by protesters supporting former King Gyanendra Shah, who have been participating in ongoing demonstrations.
