SC issues show-cause order in Ghising’s petition

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued a show-cause order in response to a petition filed by Kulman Ghising, the former Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
A single bench of Justice Abdul Ajiz Musalman issued the show-cause order during the hearing of the petition.
Ghising had filed the petition against the government’s decision to remove him from the position of Executive Director of the NEA, seeking a final ruling.
The court has asked both parties to submit written responses and scheduled a hearing for further discussions regarding interim orders on Chait 17.
The order states, “What happened in this case? Why should an order not be issued as per the petitioner’s request? If there are any grounds, reasons, and evidence to deny the requested order, written responses should be submitted through the Office of the Attorney General or through a legal representative within 15 days from the date of notice, excluding the time for delivery.”
Despite having four months left in his tenure, Ghising was removed from his position during the Cabinet meeting on Monday, which appointed Hitendra Dev Shakya as the new Executive Director of the NEA.
