KMC mayor plans to demolish controversial view tower
Mayor Balen Shah has alleged corruption in the tower's construction and suspects government involvement.

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is preparing to demolish the under-construction Kathmandu View Tower at Purano Bus Park in Ward 28.
Mayor Balen Shah has alleged corruption in the tower’s construction and suspects government involvement.
According to his personal secretary, Bhupdev Sah, the tower will not be demolished until the full truth is revealed, and the municipality is taking strong action in this regard.
The Chief Administrative Officer of Kathmandu, Saroj Guragain, has been accused of irregularities in approving the tower’s design, which led to his office entry being restricted.
Although a probe committee found him innocent, Mayor Shah rejected their report.
Sah further stated that the municipality is determined to uncover corruption, even though the committee did not directly recommend demolishing the tower.
He emphasized that only by demolishing the tower will the full extent of the involvement in the alleged corruption be exposed.
A report from a committee examining the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model of the structure is awaited, after which final decisions will be made.
The future of the Kathmandu View Tower remains uncertain.
