Elderly woman receives citizenship at the age of 89
Efforts had been made previously to grant Nepali citizenship, but legal complexities had prevented it, according to the Ward Chairperson, Ramesh Rawal.

KATHMANDU: An elderly woman, Rangi Nepali, from Budhiganga Municipality-8, Bajura has received her Nepali citizenship at the age of 89.
The Chief District Officer, Meghnath Padhya, officially provided the citizenship to Nepali on Thursday.
Efforts had been made previously to grant Nepali citizenship, but legal complexities had prevented it, according to the Ward Chairperson, Ramesh Rawal.
According to Rawal, Nepali became helpless when her daughter got married and left, and due to her lack of citizenship, she was deprived of services and facilities from the municipality.
Since Nepali had no relatives, Rawal personally assisted her by providing identification and helping her obtain citizenship.
After receiving her citizenship, Nepali expressed her happiness, stating, “It’s all because of the Ward Chairperson that I received my citizenship today,” she said.
Her husband had passed away 22 years ago, but due to an incomplete legal process, she had been deprived of citizenship until now.
Chief District Officer Meghnath Padhya confirmed that Nepali, who had been living in Nepal as a permanent resident, was granted citizenship after fulfilling the legal requirements.
Padhy further mentioned that many citizens in remote areas face issues due to delays in obtaining citizenship, and the administration has been working to resolve these issues by granting citizenship through recommendations from the ward to ensure no legal obstacles arise.
This is a significant step in addressing the problems faced by many citizens, especially those in remote regions, who have long been deprived of basic rights due to delays in the legal process.
