KATHMANDU: A hunger strike has been launched as part of the “Purification Campaign” against irregularities, lack of transparency, and disorderly activities within the Nepal Scouts.
The campaign started a relay hunger strike on Chaitra 1, but it escalated to a full hunger strike from Wednesday.
The campaign is protesting serious allegations against the Director of Nepal Scouts, Ram Prasad Bhattrai, including financial irregularities and sexual harassment.
Despite these allegations, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Tejulal Chaudhary, has not shown any urgency in initiating an investigation. As a result, the “Purification Campaign” began a hunger strike.
The protesters also created an effigy of Minister Chaudhary on Thursday as part of their protest, according to the campaign coordinator, Devdoot Adhikari.
Upon discovering the effigy, the minister’s assistant reportedly reprimanded the scouts participating in the strike, asking why the effigy had been created.
