KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to respond in Parliament regarding the dismissal of Kulman Ghising from his position as the Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

However, opposition parties have demanded that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli personally attend and answer in the House, but according to the Chief Whip of the CPN-UML, Mahesh Bartaula, the Prime Minister will not be speaking in Parliament on this issue.

During a meeting with Bartaula, Prime Minister Oli confirmed that the government would provide a response, but he would not address the matter himself. Bartaula mentioned, “The government will respond on behalf of the issue raised in the House. Whether someone comes to speak or not is not decided by the opposition’s demands. The Prime Minister is not expected to attend the session regarding the dismissal of Kulman Ghising. However, the government will answer on this matter.”

Opposition parties, however, have been demanding that Prime Minister Oli personally clarify the decision to remove Kulman Ghising during the Cabinet meeting.

They have insisted that the House cannot proceed until the Prime Minister provides an explanation.

Meanwhile, Ghising has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court, claiming his removal was illegal.

The petition names the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, and the Nepal Electricity Authority among the respondents.

On Monday, the Cabinet dismissed Ghising and appointed Hitesh Dev Shakya as the new Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority.

The opposition has blocked the meetings of both houses of the Federal Parliament over the dismissal of Ghising.
