Dahal demands PM’s explanation over Kulman Ghising’s dismissal
Speaking to journalists at the Parliament building on Wednesday, Dahal claimed that the government had removed Ghising under dubious circumstances.

KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the leader of the main opposition party, Maoist Centre, has emphasized that the ongoing parliamentary session cannot proceed until Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli provides a satisfactory explanation regarding the dismissal of Kulman Ghising from his position as the Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
Speaking to journalists at the Parliament building on Wednesday, Dahal claimed that the government had removed Ghising under dubious circumstances.
“The House will not run until the Prime Minister addresses the issue from the rostrum. He needs to come forward and provide a clear explanation. If his explanation is satisfactory, the session will resume immediately. But if it turns out to be another web of deceit, the protests will continue,” Dahal stated.
Dahal also expressed his disapproval of remarks made by Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) chief whip, Gyan Bahadur Shahi, who suggested that Ghising’s removal was linked to political bargaining related to the formation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). Dahal rejected these claims, describing them as “false, deceitful, and criminal propaganda.” He added, “Statements like those from Gyan Bahadur Shahi, saying ‘Prachanda exchanged Kulman for the TRC’, are nothing but blatant lies.”
Reiterating his concerns about the government’s actions, Dahal remarked, “Once the TRC issue was settled at Singha Durbar, there was no immediate need to take such a step. It reminded me of discussions about heaven and hell. I once again felt that a significant amount of trickery was involved. I am both concerned and disheartened.”
Dahal acknowledged the positive work done by Kulman Ghising during his tenure as the Executive Director of NEA. “We had publicly stated that Kulman would retire in 4-5 months. He has done good work, and public opinion is in his favor. No one had mentioned anything about his removal until the day I left. But as soon as I left, the cabinet decided to dismiss him,” he said.
