Itahari Central Plaza fire doused after six hours
The fire, which started around 9:30 AM this morning, was successfully controlled by around 3:00 PM.

KATHMANDU: A fire that broke out at the Central Plaza in Itahari, Sunsari, was brought under control after approximately five and a half hours of intense firefighting efforts.
The blaze, which started around 9:30 AM on Wednesday, was successfully contained by around 3:00 PM.
According to DSP Laxmi Bhandari of the Itahari Area Police Office, the fire is now nearly under control.
“The fire is almost under control,” she confirmed, adding, “We have not yet received full details about the injured, and we are still at the scene gathering information.”
The Central Plaza, owned by businessman Rajesh Shrestha, is a multi-purpose building that houses a hotel with a Verandah, a cinema hall, and several businesses, including Laxmi Sunrise Bank, large electronics stores, and mobile shops.
Sunsari District Police Chief, SP Suman Timilsina, reported that 11 people have been rescued from the building, including three women and eight men.
The rescue operation involved coordinated efforts from the Nepal Police, Armed Police, and the Nepali Army.
The fire caused significant damage to the plaza, with losses estimated to be in the millions of rupees.
However, thanks to the swift response and efficient coordination among rescue teams, the situation was brought under control, preventing further casualties or extensive damage.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire, which is believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit in the cinema hall.

Vishal Singh (28 years) – (Husband of Diya Rai) – Undergoing treatment at Itahari Hospital
Ashish Chaudhary (24 years) – Sunsari, Ramdhuni-7 – Undergoing treatment at Itahari Hospital
The identities of two other individuals remain undisclosed.
