KATHMANDU: Purusottam Kattel has been appointed as the new General Secretary of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF).

His appointment comes after former General Secretary Anwarul Haque resigned, citing personal reasons.

Kattel will assume the role starting April 1.

A Nepali citizen, Kattel has had a distinguished 17-year career with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as a unit head. Expressing his excitement about joining SAFF, he said, “I am very happy to join SAFF. There are both opportunities and challenges in this field. Throughout my football career, I have closely observed the South Asian region, and the future of football here looks bright.”

While taking on his new responsibilities, Kattel thanked President Kazi Salahuddin and the outgoing General Secretary, Anwarul Haque.

“I would like to thank Chair Kaji Salahuddin for entrusting me with this responsibility, and I also want to express my gratitude to Anwarul Haque for his long-term contribution to the development of South Asian football. His contribution will be greatly valued.”
