Central Plaza fire update: 3 rescued, helicopter assistance planned

KATHMANDU: A fire broke out at the Central Plaza in Itahari, Sunsari, trapping at least three people inside.
These individuals were rescued with the help of ropes, but the exact number of people still trapped in the building remains uncertain.
Rescue teams are continuing their efforts to save two more individuals using ropes.
The fire, which started around 9:30 AM on Wednesday, has yet to be fully controlled, according to District Officer Dharmendra Kumar Mishra.
Despite the efforts of eight fire trucks from Itahari and surrounding areas, the blaze remains active.
In response to the growing emergency, plans are underway to bring in a military helicopter from the Eastern Division of the Nepal Army to assist with firefighting efforts.
The fire reportedly began on the fifth floor of the building, located on the northern side of the Kakarbhitta Road at Itahari Chowk.
Currently, the flames have spread to the fifth, sixth, and seventh floors, with no immediate indication of when the situation will be under control.
The nine-story building houses a variety of establishments, including Hotel Varandah, Varandah Restaurant, QFX Cinema Hall, Sunrise Bank, cafes, mobile service centers, and several shops.
The Plaza Itahari is a commercial building owned by Rajesh Shrestha.

Authorities are working tirelessly to contain the fire and ensure the safety of those still trapped.
