KATHMANDU: The process of issuing permits for spring mountaineering has officially started this year.

According to the Department of Tourism, 58 individuals, including 18 women and 40 men, from eight different mountaineering groups, have been granted permission to climb various peaks, including Annapurna-1.

Climbers from 24 countries, including Nepal, have already obtained permits for mountaineering this season.

Department Director Liladhar Awasthi shared that the process of granting climbing permits for the season is underway.

“Permits for summiting Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, will be issued soon,” he added.

Climbing companies are actively preparing for the Everest climbing season.

“There has been an uptick in mountaineering activities in the Everest region lately. The climbing companies have ramped up their efforts to manage the upcoming climbs,” the Department Director further stated.

The spring season is widely regarded as the best time to scale peaks, including Mount Everest. A significant influx of international climbers typically arrives during this season to attempt the world’s tallest summit.

The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) has assigned an ‘icefall doctor’ to clear the route for Mount Everest climbers this spring.

The SPCC has also dispatched a 10-member team to construct the path from the base camp to the second camp on Everest.

In addition, experienced climbers have been deployed for ‘rope fixing’ from the second camp to the summit.

The Mountaineering Operators’ Association has assigned a team of 10 Sherpa climbers, led by Ashok Lama, to set up the ropes to the summit of Mount Everest.
