KATHMANDU: The removal of Kulman Ghising from the position of Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has sparked a heated debate in the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee.

The controversy began when Maoist MP Amanlal Modi attempted to raise the issue, only to face strong opposition from ruling party MPs.

The ruling party members argued that since the issue did not fall under their turn to speak, Modi should wait for his allotted time.

This led to a heated exchange between the two sides.

The disagreement intensified when opposition MPs, including Tara Lama Tamang from UML, Ramkrishna Yadav, Manju Khan, and Mohan Basnet from Congress, joined the discussion.

Initially, there was a back-and-forth between Chairperson Rishikesh Pokharel and Modi, with Rastriya Swatantra Party’s MPs Manish Jha and Hari Dhakal supporting Modi’s stance.

The issue has become a point of contention among political parties, highlighting growing tensions within the parliament.
