KATHMANDU: The Deputy CEO of South Korean company Samsung Electronics, Han Jong-hee, passed away on Tuesday due to a heart attack.

He was leading the Digital Devices and Device Experience division, which is responsible for Samsung’s mobile phones and home appliances.

Born in 1962, Han had spent a total of 37 years at Samsung.

He was appointed as Vice Chair and Deputy CEO of the Electronics Division in 2022.

According to CNN, Han played a crucial role in elevating Samsung’s television business to a global level. “At this difficult time, we extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones,” the company said in a statement.

Just last week, Han, along with four other executive directors from Samsung’s board, had participated in the company’s annual general meeting.

During the meeting, shareholders raised concerns about the company’s declining stock value.

Samsung has been facing several challenges in recent years, particularly in competition with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and in the production and promotion of semiconductor chips.

At the shareholders’ meeting, Han apologized to investors for the losses in the stock market.

He also mentioned that in 2025, Samsung would look into merger and acquisition agreements. “There are regulatory challenges and international concerns regarding mergers and acquisitions in the semiconductor sector, but we expect to achieve solid results this year,” he stated.
