Rabi Lamichhane breaks silence after Kulman Ghising’s dismissal
On Monday midnight, Lamichhane appeared on Facebook Live with a subtle yet meaningful presentation.

KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority’s Executive Director Kulman Ghising’s dismissal has sparked widespread reactions.
On Monday evening, the government, through a cabinet meeting, relieved Ghising of his duties and appointed Hitendra Dev Shakya as the new Executive Director.
Following this decision, there has been a surge of protests on social media. Among the prominent figures raising their voices is Rabi Lamichhane, the chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), who had been silent on social media for the past five months.
On Monday midnight, Lamichhane appeared on Facebook Live with a subtle yet meaningful presentation.
In the 1-minute 22-second video, he did not utter a single word, but the video shows him sitting in a dark room, striking a match to light a candle. In the caption of the video, he wrote, “The final decision on who stays and who goes will be made by the people.”
Lamichhane had been absent from social media since he was arrested on charges of cooperative fraud on 2nd Kattik. His last post was on 18th October, where he wrote, “The government is dead, we are left with the scraps.”
Although Lamichhane was released on bail after paying 6.5 million rupees on 25th Poush in connection with the Sunydarshan Cooperative fraud case, he had refrained from making any posts until now.
His silence was broken after the dismissal of Kulman Ghising, which many have interpreted as a political message.
