Paudel: Skilled doctors essential for better healthcare, not just hospitals
He pointed out that while the Kathmandu Valley is adequately served, many health institutions outside the valley are facing a shortage of staff.

KATHMANDU: Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel has emphasized that simply building hospitals is not enough; it is crucial to produce skilled doctors capable of providing treatment.
Speaking at the fifth convocation ceremony of the National Academy of Medical Sciences in Kathmandu on Monday, he highlighted that while there is a sufficient workforce, the needed medical personnel are not always available in hospitals.
He pointed out that while the Kathmandu Valley is adequately served, many health institutions outside the valley are facing a shortage of staff.
Minister Paudel stressed the importance of having a strong commitment to serving outside the valley to contribute to the healthcare system.
He also called for broader policy changes and reforms to enhance the development of the healthcare workforce.
While acknowledging that the government may not always be able to offer the highest salaries, he emphasized the need for provisions that can support staff at a sustainable level.
Minister Paudel further stated that the establishment of hospitals and ministries should be focused on serving citizens, and it is crucial to create conditions that make healthcare services more accessible.
He assured that the government is working to ensure that no one is deprived of medical treatment.
