Rising popularity of Ayurvedic treatment in Jhapa

KATHMANDU: The number of patients seeking Ayurvedic treatment in Jhapa, as it is not only effective but also cost-effective.
The District Ayurveda Health Center in Bhadrapur is now treating an average of over 70 patients daily.
According to Dr. Vijay Shrestha, the Chief Ayurvedic Doctor at the center, they provide therapeutic, promotional, and informational services. Most of the patients seeking treatment suffer from conditions like piles, back problems, gastric issues, asthma, joint problems, and respiratory diseases.
Due to the ease and effectiveness of the treatment methods, the local community’s trust in Ayurveda has grown significantly.
During the current fiscal year 2081/82, in the first eight months alone, the center has provided various services: 4,928 patients received Purvakarma/Panchakarma (therapies), 930 people attended yoga sessions, 105 received homeopathic services, and 545 patients utilized laboratory services, according to the center’s Information Officer, Khagendra Bhattrai.
Additionally, the center has served 2,175 patients with outpatient services, and offers surgical services, breastfeeding and infant care, and elderly citizen services. As part of its service, the center distributes Ashwagandha Churna and Amla Churna to elderly citizens.
Dr. Shrestha emphasized that their Purvakarma/Panchakarma therapy services are unique compared to other Ayurvedic centers in the province.
These treatments include massage therapy, steam baths, oil massages, administering oil through the anal route, inducing vomiting, and performing purgation as required.
Kiran Pokhrel, a resident of Bhadrapur Municipality-8, shared his experience with Ayurvedic treatment, stating that after struggling with gastric issues and receiving no improvement from various hospitals, he has been receiving regular treatment at the center for the past two months.
He has noticed significant improvements, and his appetite has returned.
Similarly, development worker Bikas Rajbanshi from Haldibari, who had been suffering from back pain, also reported a noticeable reduction in pain shortly after starting treatment with Purvakarma/Panchakarma at the center.
The improvements seen in health after Ayurvedic treatments have led more citizens in the area to turn to Ayurveda, demonstrating a growing belief in the effectiveness of this traditional treatment.
