4,400+ criminal cases registered in Nepal, banking crimes lead

KATHMANDU: In the month of Falgun, a total of 4,468 criminal cases were registered across the country.

Among these, the highest number of cases were related to banking crimes, with 1,127 cases (25.22%) registered.

According to Nepal Police’s central spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General Dinesh Kumar Acharya, criminal incidents in the Kathmandu Valley are on the rise, with the highest number of banking crime cases being reported.

He further mentioned that within banking crimes, most of the cases are related to check bouncing.

He also highlighted the increase in crimes arising from the misuse of social media due to the rapid development of technology.

In addition to banking crimes, other significant categories of criminal cases included 521 cases related to public welfare, health, safety, and ethics violations; 501 cases related to suicide; 419 drug-related crimes; 286 thefts; 168 cases of sexual assault; 162 fraud cases; 154 traffic-related deaths; 71 cases of homicide; and 42 cases of negligent homicide.

The highest number of criminal cases were registered in the Kathmandu Valley, with 1,337 cases.

Other provinces also reported varying numbers of criminal incidents: 715 cases in Madhesh Province, 665 in Koshi Province, 612 in Lumbini Province, 376 in Bagmati Province, 279 in Sudurpashchim Province, 323 in Gandaki Province, and 161 in Karnali Province, as per the police data.
