KATHMANDU: A fire that erupted at the Shangrila Plywood Industry in Khaira, Ghorahi Sub-Metropolis-9, Dang has caused extensive damage, with property losses running into millions of rupees.

The fire is believed to have started due to an electrical short circuit.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Chakra Bahadur Shah, from the District Police Office in Dang, reported that over 30 nearby houses are at risk due to the blaze.

The plywood industry spans across eight bigahas, and efforts are currently underway to remove belongings from these homes, with residents being relocated to safer areas.

The fire has completely destroyed wood, raw materials, plywood-making machines, and other equipment used in the production of plywood.

The blaze, which began at 2 am this morning, is still ongoing and has not yet been fully contained.

Firefighting operations are being carried out with the support of fire engines from Ghorahi, Tulsipur, Lamahi, Gadhwa, and Kapilvastu.

A large number of personnel from the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army, and local volunteers are working together to control the fire.
