KATHMANDU: Germany has reached the semifinals of the UEFA Nations League for the first time after defeating Italy in an exciting quarterfinal clash.

The match ended 3-3 in the second leg on Sunday, but Germany advanced with a 5-4 aggregate score, having won the first leg 2-1.

This marks Germany’s first-ever appearance in the Nations League semifinals in the competition’s fourth edition.

For the visiting Italy, Moise Kean scored twice, while Giacomo Raspadori added one goal. Germany’s goals came from Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, and Tim Kleindienst, each scoring once.

Kimmich’s brilliant performance helped Germany take a commanding 3-0 lead in the first half.

He converted a penalty, while Musiala and Kleindienst assisted with goals at the 30th, 36th, and 45th minutes, respectively.

Italy mounted a strong comeback in the second half, with Moise Kean scoring twice to bring the visitors back into the game.

Kean netted goals in the 49th and 69th minutes, putting pressure on Germany.

In injury time, Raspadori scored a penalty, reigniting Italy’s hopes. However, Germany held on to secure their place in the semifinals.

Germany will now face Portugal in the next stage as they aim for a spot in the final.
