KATHMANDU: In the second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday, Chennai Super Kings secured a four-wicket victory against Mumbai Indians.
Mumbai, after losing the toss, batted first and set a target of 156 runs for Chennai. In response, Chennai achieved the target with five balls to spare, scoring 158/6.
The victory for Chennai was powered by their openers, Rachin Ravindra and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who both scored half-centuries.
Ravindra played a solid knock of 65 runs off 45 balls, including four sixes and two fours. Gaikwad contributed 53 runs off 26 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes.
Although Ravindra Jadeja added 17 runs, the rest of the Chennai batsmen struggled. Rahul Tripathi scored just 2, Shivman Dube made 9, Deepak Hooda managed 3, and Shyam Kurana was dismissed for 4 runs. MS Dhoni remained not out at 2 off 2 balls.
For Mumbai, Vignesh Puthur was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets, while Deepak Chahar and Will Jacks each took one wicket.
Earlier, Mumbai, batting first at Chennai’s home ground, managed just 155 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Tilak Varma was the top scorer for Mumbai with 31 runs off 25 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes. Captain Suryakumar Yadav contributed 29 runs, while Deepak Chahar was dismissed for 28.
Chennai’s bowlers dominated the Mumbai lineup, with Noor Ahmad taking the most wickets, claiming four wickets for just 18 runs in his four overs. He was named the Player of the Match. Ali Ahmed also took three wickets for Chennai.
With this win, Chennai Super Kings registered an important victory in the IPL.
