NA approves bill to amend cooperative laws

KATHMANDU: On Sunday, the National Assembly approved the Cooperative Amendment Bill, 2081, which aims to address challenges in the cooperative sector.

The proposal, presented by Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation, Balram Adhikari, was passed with a majority vote.

During the discussion on the bill, Minister Adhikari clarified that the legislation was introduced to resolve the issues currently plaguing the cooperative sector.

He emphasized that the bill would provide immediate solutions to these challenges. “This bill will swiftly address the current problems,” he said.

Minister Adhikari also assured that the government is committed to resolving the issues in the cooperative sector in a way that addresses the concerns and aspirations of the opposition, the general public, and relevant stakeholders.

The discussion saw participation from several members of parliament, including Dr. Beduram Bhusal, Kiranbabu Pun, Ganga Kumari Belbase, Indiradevi Gautam, Tul Prasad Vishwakarma, Yuvraj Sharma, Uday Bahadur Bohora, Manrupa Sharma, Tulsakumari Dahal, Jayantidevi Rai, Shreekrishna Prasad Adhikari, Rukmini Koirala, Renu Chand, Rajendralakshmi Gaire, and Gopibahadur Sarki Achami.

National Assembly Speaker Narayan Prasad Dahal informed that any member wishing to propose amendments to the bill could submit their suggestions through the bill’s committee.
