KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index, which has been on a steady decline for the past week, witnessed a notable dip on the first trading day of this week.

The NEPSE index dropped by 54.62 points, settling at 2,614.68, marking a decrease of 2.04%.

A total of 317 companies traded 12,371,280 shares in 72,265 transactions today, amounting to a total turnover of Rs 6.32 billion, according to NEPSE.

Among the major sectors, the Banking group fell by 1.47%, Development Banks by 2.42%, Finance by 2.99%, Hotels and Tourism by 2.23%, Hydro Power by 2.33%, Investment by 0.05%, and Life Insurance by 1.85%.

Other sectors like Production and Processing, Microfinance, Mutual Funds, Non-Life Insurance, and Trade also reported declines, ranging from 0.07% to 2.85%.

On a positive note, Kuthli Bukhari Small Hydropower Limited saw the highest increase in share price, rising by 8.72%. On the downside, Mithila Microfinance Financial Institution Limited’s shares hit the negative circuit limit.

In terms of transaction volume, Himalayan Reinsurance Limited saw the highest turnover, with shares worth Rs 42.634 million being traded.

The company with the highest number of shares traded was Ghalemdi Hydro Limited, which saw 454,371 shares bought and sold.
