KATHMANDU: A wildfire in the southeastern region of South Korea has resulted in the deaths of four people and left six others injured.

According to the New York Times, nearly 2,000 hectares in 29 areas have been affected by the fire, citing the Ministry of the Interior.

International media reported that two firefighters who were working to control the blaze also lost their lives.

To combat the fire, dozens of helicopters have been deployed, and at least 1,000 locals have been relocated.

The fire spread in the county of Sancheong, located around 160 miles southeast of the capital, Seoul.

The government declared a state of emergency in the area on Saturday evening.

Local authorities reported that by Sunday morning, around 30% of the fire in Sancheong had been brought under control.

Officials stated that the fire spread rapidly due to dry and windy weather conditions.

In Sancheong, over 200 residents from eight villages have been ordered to evacuate their homes.

Additionally, more than 400 people have been displaced in the nearby county of Uiseong due to the wildfire.
