Lawmakers demand action over caste-based attack & house demolition in Siraha

KATHMANDU: In today’s meeting of the National Assembly, lawmakers demanded an investigation into the incident where the house of Deepak Mallik in Aurahi Municipality-5, Siraha, was demolished under the pretext of conducting a grand yajna (ritual).

MP Ghanashyam Rijal condemned the act, labeling it a heinous crime driven by caste discrimination. He specifically mentioned that the perpetrators, including Bajrangi Baba, who is believed to have led the crime, should be held accountable. “The earth where Dalits reside was considered impure, and even the soil inside the house was dug up and thrown away,” Rjzal remarked, emphasizing that this act had insulted nearly 60 lakh Dalit people. He pointed out that such actions are in direct violation of the constitution and the law.
Rizal also expressed concern over the actions of elected representatives committing such crimes, which reflect poorly on the consciousness of Nepali society.
Although the local municipality chairman, Shivji Yadav, has been arrested, the affected family continues to feel unsafe, and Rijal urged the government to ensure their protection.
MPs Bishnu Devi Pudassaini and Bishnu Bahadur Bhishwkarma also condemned the demolition of the Dalit household in the name of a yajna, calling it a criminal act.
They demanded strict punishment for all involved, including the immediate dismissal of the municipality chairman and the arrest of Bajrangi Baba.
MP Manrupa Sharma called for swift action against those involved in the murder of 19-year-old Mina Pariyar from Beni Municipality, Magdi.
MP Rukmini Koirala urged the government to introduce plans to protect citizens from contagious diseases. Meanwhile, MP Renu Chandra raised concerns about the status of the martyr Dashrath Chand Health Science University Bill, which had been passed in the National Assembly and sent to the House of Representatives.
MP Vishnu Kumari Sapkota criticized the government for not encouraging commercial production among sugarcane farmers in Gulmi’s Chhatrokot Ruru Municipality and instead creating hardships for them.
MP Krishna Bahadur Rakoaya drew attention to the need for a bridge over the Bheri River to connect Chaurjahari in Rukum West and Madela in Jajarkot along the Mid-Hill Highway.
MP Shreekrishna Prasad Adhikari responded to Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka’s statement about possible load shedding, calling it a misleading remark. MPs Pooja Chaudhary, Baldev Bohora, and Sabitri Mall also raised various important issues, urging the government to address them promptly.
