Eleven tourists die from altitude sickness in Mustang
The victims ranged in age from 58 to 81 years.

KATHMANDU: In the past year, eleven tourists have tragically lost their lives due to altitude sickness in Mustang district.
This includes nine foreign backpackers and two Nepali nationals, who passed away between April 13, 2024, and the present.
According to Police Inspector Bishal Adhikari, the majority of the victims were Indian tourists who died while visiting the Muktinath temple and other areas in the district.
Inspector Adhikari provided further details, stating that five fatalities occurred in Muktinath, located in Baragung Muktikshetra-1, five in Jomsom in Gharpajhong-4, and one in Thasang Rural Municipality-2.
The victims ranged in age from 58 to 81 years.
The District Police Office also reported the breakdown of deaths by month: two in Baisakh, one in Jestha, two in Ashoj, five in Kartik, and one in Poush.
Among the deceased was a 63-year-old American citizen, as confirmed by Inspector Adhikari.
In 2080 BS, 17 individuals died due to altitude sickness, including 11 foreigners and six Nepali nationals, according to the police.
