KATHMANDU: Political tensions are set to rise in Kathmandu on Chait 15 (March 28), as both pro-monarchy groups and ruling socialist factions prepare for large-scale demonstrations.

On one side, royalists, led by figures advocating for the restoration of the monarchy, are gearing up for a street protest, while on the other, the ruling coalition, including the CPN (Maoist Centre) and other socialist groups, has announced their own plans for a show of strength.

With both sides planning demonstrations in the capital on the same day, security forces are on high alert.

The Socialist Front is preparing for a massive rally in Kathmandu, calling for unity among republican forces to take to the streets.

At the same time, the group led by Durga Prasai, which is campaigning for the restoration of the monarchy, is also planning to hold a protest, further raising concerns about potential clashes and escalating political tensions.

Given the unpredictable nature of political protests, security personnel have been advised to exercise heightened vigilance.

The Kathmandu Valley Police Office has instructed the three district police offices (Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur) as well as the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office to maintain increased alertness. In particular, the security forces have intensified covert surveillance over the Socialist Front’s rally, mindful of the possibility of unwanted intrusions.

Police authorities have been directed to monitor political activities using their respective resources. According to police sources, a detailed analysis of the protest’s nature and potential impact is underway, as there is a risk that political demonstrations could destabilize the security situation in Kathmandu.

Various security agencies have coordinated to increase monitoring and mitigate the risk of any disturbances.

The general public in Kathmandu is expressing concerns over potential disruptions to their daily lives, with many hoping that the protests do not interfere with regular activities.

As political rallies could have an impact on traffic management in the capital, the traffic police have been preparing special plans to manage any disruptions.

In light of the sensitivity of the political atmosphere and security concerns, authorities are ready to deploy additional security forces if necessary.

Increased security presence will be seen across key areas in Kathmandu on Chait 15, with continued monitoring of the activities of the demonstrators to ensure public safety.
