KATHMANDU: In celebration of World Water Day, Siddhartha Bank successfully conducted its first-ever “Walk for Water, Walk for Life” awareness walk.

The event marked a significant step in promoting the importance of water conservation and sustainable water management.

The bank has always aligned its banking practices with the principles of sustainable development. By adopting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, Siddhartha Bank has consistently worked towards ensuring financial sustainability through various policies and programs.

Through initiatives in green finance, modern digital banking, and corporate social responsibility, the bank continues to expand financial access while prioritizing renewable energy, eco-friendly investments, and responsible banking practices. This commitment reflects the bank’s determination to contribute to sustainable economic growth.

Since 1993, the United Nations has observed March 22 as World Water Day with the aim of contributing to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of “Water and Sanitation for All.” This day serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the critical importance of water, and Siddhartha Bank used this occasion to spread the message about the significance of water conservation through its “Walk for Water, Walk for Life” walkathon.

Water is the foundation of life on Earth, essential not only for humans but also for all living beings, plants, agriculture, industry, and ecosystems.

The walkathon was organized to highlight the urgent need for sustainable water management to prevent a future water crisis, emphasizing the importance of ensuring clean water for future generations.

This year, the theme for World Water Day focused on Glacier Preservation, which is crucial for the long-term survival of the planet.

Water from glaciers plays an essential role in drinking water supply, agriculture, industry, energy production, and maintaining ecological balance.

During the inauguration of the walk, Siddhartha Bank’s CEO, Mr. Sundar Prasad Kadel, highlighted the serious issue of glacial melting in a country like Nepal, urging the need for both national and international efforts to address this issue. He further stated that the rising global temperatures and the melting of glaciers are disrupting the natural water cycle, causing a range of environmental crises.

The walk covered a distance of 5 kilometers, beginning from Naxal Narayanchowk, passing through Hattisar, Putalisadak, Bagbazar, Ratnapark, Jamal, Darbar Marg, and Gaeridhara, and concluded back at Naxal.

A total of 656 individuals, including bank employees and other stakeholders, participated in the event, with 395 men and 261 women joining the walk.

Through this initiative, Siddhartha Bank not only supported the global mission of water conservation but also strengthened its commitment to sustainable banking practices, reflecting its active role in addressing environmental challenges.
