High-ranking hamas leader Salah al-Bardawil killed in Israeli Airstrike in Gaza
The attack also claimed the life of his wife.

KATHMANDU: Salah al-Bardawil, a senior political leader of Hamas, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the southern Gaza Strip, specifically in Khan Yunis.
The attack also claimed the life of his wife.
According to Reuters, Hamas officials have confirmed his death, noting that Bardawil was a prominent member of Hamas’s political committee.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Hamas’s press advisor, Taher al-Nono, expressed deep condolences and paid tribute to Bardawil.
The airstrike in Gaza comes after a two-month lull in Israeli attacks. Following the breakdown of ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas, the Israeli military intensified its operations, launching aerial and ground assaults against Hamas targets.
Hundreds of casualties have been reported since the escalation began last Tuesday, with more than 400 deaths recorded on the previous day.
Witnesses in northern Gaza described powerful explosions and the sound of Israeli warplanes overhead for over an hour on Sunday morning.
The resumption of violence has forced many Palestinians, who had previously returned to Gaza during the ceasefire, to flee again to neighboring countries.
Israel has further restricted aid, blocking food and humanitarian trucks at border crossings as part of its strategy to pressure Hamas.
Despite the ceasefire holding for 42 days, the lack of agreement on a second-stage ceasefire led to the resumption of intense military action.
While the United States had urged Israel to extend the truce, Hamas insisted on the initiation of the second-phase ceasefire before any agreement could be reached, resulting in renewed hostilities.
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has exacerbated the already dire humanitarian crisis, drawing international concern as the suffering of the Palestinian people intensifies.
