KATHMANDU: The expansion work of the Muglin-Pokhara section of the Prithvi Highway is progressing rapidly.

An obstruction that had lasted for a month during the expansion of the highway has now been removed.

The obstruction at Bimalnagar, Chunpahara in Tanahu, located on the eastern section of the Mugling-Pokhara highway, has been cleared as of today.

Due to rock cutting work, there was a temporary traffic disruption at Chunpahara, causing inconvenience to travelers. As part of the highway expansion, the road construction work in Chunpahara had been partially closed for about a month to expedite the process.

From the Bimalnagar traffic management office to the new bridge, a 500-meter section had been partially closed, but now vehicles can move smoothly from today.

The section had been closed intermittently for 45 minutes to an hour as required for work, and this disruption has been lifted, according to Engineer Bishnu Prasad Pandey, the Information Officer for the Mugling-Pokhara Eastern Road Project.

Although the construction work is still ongoing, minor disruptions of about 15 minutes may occur periodically.

The contract for the eastern section was signed on 17th Magh, 2077, and work began on 2nd Baishakh, 2078.

The contract for the eastern section was awarded to China Communications Construction Company.

The road, originally designed in 2026 B.S., is being upgraded to accommodate the increasing traffic flow. With financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the road is being widened to four lanes.

The construction of the eastern section is being carried out at a cost of Rs 6.21 billion.
