Six dead & over 100 injured in fires across Nepal in last month

KATHMANDU: In the past month, fires in various regions of Nepal have resulted in the deaths of six people, including one male, four females, and one child.

Additionally, 30 men, 26 women, 6 boys, and 3 girls have sustained injuries in these fire incidents.

According to Nepal Police spokesperson, Deputy Inspector General Dinesh Kumar Acharya, there have been 501 fire incidents reported nationwide.

The fires have caused significant damage, with 87 houses and 57 sheds destroyed. Furthermore, 146 livestock have perished, and 38 families have been displaced.

The total financial loss due to these fires is estimated at Rs 404.8 million. To manage the crisis, a total of 3,614 police officers have been deployed in various affected areas.

The highest number of fire incidents occurred in Koshi Province, with 135 cases, followed by Madhesh with 105 incidents, Bagmati with 44, Kathmandu Valley with 49, Gandaki with 33, Lumbini with 64, Karnali with 30, and Sudurpashchim with 41 incidents, as reported by the police spokesperson.

The ongoing dry weather and lack of rainfall have contributed to the rise in fire incidents across the country.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has urged the public to remain vigilant as fire incidents are expected to increase in the coming weeks.
