The Prime Minister National Talent Award was established following a cabinet decision on 17th Mangsir 2075 to encourage talented citizens in the field of innovation.
At that time, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli received one hundred thousand US dollars from the government of South Korea, which, together with an equal amount from the Government of Nepal, was used to establish the award fund.
The fund provides an annual prize of five lakh rupees to two individuals. The first awards were distributed in 2076, recognizing three talents across two categories, but the distribution was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, the awards for the past five years were presented all at once.
Prime Minister Oli emphasized that those who contribute positively to society should be recognized and honored by both the state and society.
