Rabi Lamichhane challenges Kathmandu Court’s bail order in High Court
Lamichhane has sought to revoke the district court's decision that granted bail against a 60 million rupee bond.

KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, the leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has filed a petition at the Patan High Court challenging the Kathmandu District Court’s order regarding the cooperative case.
Lamichhane has sought to revoke the district court’s decision that granted bail against a 60 million rupee bond, and he has requested to be allowed to remain free on a personal recognizance bond under the provisions of Section 69 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
On Friday, Lamichhane, accompanied by his legal team, appeared before the court and filed a petition for a general date of hearing, requesting to continue his case without the imposition of bail.
He argued that the Kathmandu District Court’s ruling on Jan 9, which ordered bail under Section 68 of the Criminal Procedure Code, was not justifiable and should be reversed, allowing him to be granted a personal bond instead.
On Jan 15, the Kathmandu District Court’s bench, led by Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari, had ordered Lamichhane’s release on a 60 million rupee bank guarantee in connection with the Swarnalaxmi Cooperative’s financial mismanagement case.
Lamichhane was released after submitting the bank guarantee.
Lamichhane is facing charges related to a 508 million rupee fraud and organized crime involving the cooperative.
