KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that after the establishment of the Federal Democratic Republic, local governments have truly brought the government closer to the people, reaching every village.
Speaking at the 32nd annual conference of the Nepal Municipality Association today, PM Oli emphasized that the strong local government system formed after the abolition of the monarchy is irreplaceable, a result of the long struggles and sacrifices of the Nepali people.
“While there has been debate regarding the structure of the provinces during the implementation of the Constitution, no questions have been raised about the local government. Therefore, there is no alternative to local governments. This is the closest government to the people that serves them,” PM Oli stated.
He assured that the issues and demands of local governments would be addressed progressively through appropriate policies and laws, and cooperation and coordination between all three levels of government would be essential in resolving these issues.
Addressing ongoing efforts to restore the monarchy, the Prime Minister pointed out that the people have not forgotten the autocratic rule imposed during the monarchy.
