KATHMANDU: A grand cultural exhibition showcasing the Tharu culture, cuisine, and community identity was held with the theme “Tharu Culture, Tharu Food, Our Identity, and Promoting Tharu Entrepreneurship.”

The event took place on Thursday at the Unnati Cultural Village in Belhani, which was beautifully illuminated by the vibrant Tharu culture.

The exhibition, organized with the special participation of the Tharu community from West Nawalparasi, highlighted the region’s local culture, traditions, attire, dance, handicrafts, and diverse cuisine.

The event was primarily organized by the Unnati Cultural Village, in collaboration with the Nepal Tharu Federation, and featured several stalls representing Tharu identity.

Noteworthy attractions included a display of traditional Tharu homes, handicrafts, costumes, jewelry, and stalls showcasing products made by local Tharu entrepreneurs.

Traditional dishes such as dhikri, sidra machha, and ghongi drew much attention from the participants.

Radheshyam Chaudhary, the chairperson of the organizing committee, emphasized that events like these play a crucial role in keeping Tharu culture alive and preserving it for future generations.

Suryman Chaudhary, the co-organizer from the Nepal Tharu Federation, stressed the importance of widely promoting the Tharu community’s culture and traditions, calling for such events to be held across the country.

The program, initiated by Federal Parliament Member Binod Chaudhary, underscored the significant role of the Tharu community in the overall development of Nepal. He stated, “All ethnic groups and their unique cultures are part of Nepal’s identity. The preservation and promotion of Tharu culture will elevate tourism and the economy in Nawalparasi to new heights.”

Traditional dances such as Jhumbra and Huri were the main attractions of the event.
