KATHMANDU: Sangita Baniya, a veteran journalist who had contributed to Chitwan’s media industry for many years, has passed away.

She succumbed to brain cancer at Chitwan Medical College early on Thursday morning, around 2:45 AM.

Her body will soon be taken to her home in Shivnagar, Bharatpur-16, for a brief time before being transported to Devghat for her final rites.

According to her elder brother, Shyam Silwal, an initiative for financial support was also launched to aid in her treatment. Initially diagnosed with breast cancer, Baniya had recovered from it.

However, her condition worsened after being diagnosed with brain cancer.

Baniya had been a dedicated member of the Chitwan chapter of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) and had worked for many years at the local Shivshakti Radio.

Her untimely demise has deeply saddened the journalistic community in Chitwan.
